Megazone 23 Anime Gets Murder Mystery Card Game – Interest

Just in time for the pioneering original video anime’s 40th anniversary

Japanese board game and murder mystery game maker Adice announced a murder mystery game based on the 1985 original video anime (OVA) series Megazone 23 (pronounced “two-three”) on Monday. Pre-orders have already begun for the Megazone 23 Bahamut no Zanei Murder Mystery (Megazone 23: The Shadow of Bahamut Murder Mysterty) game before its August 22 release. Up to six players can join the fun, and the game takes about 225 minutes to play.

Pre-orders on the viviON Blue website began on July 14, with other sites such as Amazon beginning on July 25. The game is rated for 15-year-olds and older and will cost 6,600 yen (about US$45).

Megazone 23 Bahamut no Zanei bridges the story between the first Megazone 23 anime and Part II. The plot is set six months after the events of Megazone 23 Part I, and players take on the roles of Ryo Hirano, Ai Umetsu, Sho Kitazume, Yoko Ishikuro, and Kumiko Itano (a wordplay on Megazone 23 creators Toshihiro Hirano, Yasuomi Umetsu, Hiroyuki Kitazume, Noboru Ishiguro, and Ichirō Itano). The game’s plot finds the characters/players implicated in a terrorist bomb attack, and they must determine who the terrorist is or be shot by the military.
